About our Services

There are some relationships that are far too important to fall into the overly digital, “on demand” abyss that our society has now embraced. You are being asked to trust someone to care for a member of your family and to be in your home. You should feel confident that the company you’ve chosen loves animals, has unquestionable integrity, and a commitment to caring for your pets as if they were their own. At Sugar Max Pet Care, love, integrity, and commitment are not just a tagline…these represent our core values. We believe in building long term, personal relationships with our pet care clients and being there for them when they need us.

Every client has an assigned sitter and we offer a complimentary 30 minute consultation with the sitter prior to booking our services. If an alternate sitter needs to be called in for some reason, you will be notified in advance. You will have your sitter’s phone number and will receive a text update and picture of your pet(s) from the sitter after every visit.

Personal relationships provide peace of mind. It’s what we do.

The old saying “it takes a village” when it comes to raising a child can be very true with pets as well! Life throws plenty of curve balls and Sugar Max Pet Care is your partner in “raising” your pet(s). Last minute business trip? Stuck at work later than normal? Pet needs to go to the vet but you can’t get them there? No need to worry…we can help! Our services are designed to be convenient, flexible, and worry-free. Let us have your back when it comes to your pets. It’s what we do.

Sugar Max Pet Care was named in memory of the owner’s Dogue de Bordeaux, Max, who lost his fight with cancer in September 2008. Max was such a kind, gentle, and majestic example of God’s creatures and he was loved very deeply by all who met him. Word on the street (i.e. his mom said) is, Max was so incredibly sweet that, if you wanted to add a little sugar to something, you need only get it near him. Max loved all creatures (although he was terribly frightened and perplexed by chinchillas, he still loved them!) and humans. Sugar Max Pet Care was born in celebration of Max’s unconditional love for all God’s creatures, great and small.

We offer a discounted rate to those clients who pre-book at least 8 services with us every month. Schedules are customized to fit your needs so, whether you need pet care support on the same days each week or your needs change from week to week, your discount will be applied as long as the minimum services requirement is met. All of our doggie friends who have recurring visits/walks with their pet sitter are happy, happy, happy! They benefit from the fresh air and exercise and it also breaks up the day for them!

SUGAR MAX PET CARE

Our Sitters & Friends

You can feel assured that every member of our team is here because they have a passion for pet care and want to work doing something they love!

Lauren Baldwin

Owner and General Manager

I'm Lauren Baldwin, the owner of Sugar Max Pet Care, and I would like to thank you for stopping by to get to know us! My love for animals began when I was a little girl growing up in rural Illinois. We always had a menagerie of animals from cats and dogs to horses, cows, and goats. My affinity to animals has followed me throughout my life and inspired my participation in several animal rescue groups for over 20 years. When I decided to leave corporate America in 2011 to be a stay-at-home mom, I had no idea that my passion for animals would lead me down a new career path.

I had always been fortunate enough to have plenty of friends who would stay with my pets in my home when I needed to travel but, eventually, people became busy with their own lives and could no longer do that. My dogs had never been boarded at a facility and I wasn't too keen on that idea anyway. Through a close friend, I discovered the world of private dog boarding and pet sitting and eventually went to work for a local pet care company in 2014. I fell in love with the service and wonderful relationships (human AND pet!) in my role as the manager of that company and opened Sugar Max Pet Care in early 2018.

Sugar Max Pet Care was born out of my desire to bring happiness to pets, peace of mind to pet owners, and for my daughter to grow up with her mom around as much as possible. The company's namesake, Max, was my beloved Dogue de Bordeaux who left this world far too soon. As is true with so many of our furry companions, Max saw me through some very difficult times in my life and I will forever be grateful for his unconditional love. I am committed to honoring Max's legacy through my company's values and the personal relationships I develop with my clients.

Thank you again for supporting small business and considering my company as you carefully choose your pet care partner. It is a blessing to be able to provide love and care for your beloved pets while you're away!

Wendy S

Pet Sitter

Hello, my name is Wendy. Growing up, we always had dogs and cats around our home. Now, my own family has two dogs, a Rottweiler and a chiweenie, and two cats. I love animals! Pet sitting is a dream job for me. Every visit is different and offers a chance to meet and love a new animal. It’s fun to see each animal’s personality and how excited they are to see me. It is an honor to care for your beloved family member while you are away from home.

Stephanie C

Pet Sitter

Hi, my name is Stephanie. I've been enjoying work with animals for 14 years now. I still love it as much as I did when I first started. I have 2 pups of my own, Dallas and Zeke. I cannot wait to meet your fur babies!

Tamarra G

Pet Sitter

Hi, My name is Tamarra. I've been a pet lover since I can remember. The dogs that I've owned and the ones I board fulfill my nurturing spirit.

When a pet owner allows me to take care of their precious pet, I recognize the trust they are putting in me. I also understand how hard it can be to leave their pet, so my goal is to ease their anxiety with frequent updates by text and pictures so they can see how their little one is doing.

I love all the personalities that come through my door and I love to see how they adapt to their new vacation spot and new friends. If your pet is shy, I let them have the time they need to adapt at their own pace. And I give them hugs and kisses just like the rest. I also enjoy seeing their joy and excitement when their owners return for them. So sweet! I'm trained to give diabetic pets insulin shots and have taken Pet First Aide.

I look forward to meeting you and your special pets.

Andrea W

Pet Sitter

Hi! My name is Andrea! I’ve always had a love for animals. Growing up, there was always a dog, cat, turtle, rat or some combination in my house. As a little girl, I dreamed of being a Veterinarian. I ended up taking a different path but my love of animals remained. While looking for a way to make additional money, I discovered pet sitting. I knew this was the ideal job for me. What a privilege to get to meet, play with and take care of animals! I’m now the mom of 2 elementary age girls, 4 dogs and an ever changing number of cats. I volunteer with a local cat rescue so there is always at least one foster cat waiting for a forever home. While my life is busy, I always enjoy the chance to pet sit for a new or existing client.

SUGAR MAX CAREERS

Interested in joining the Sugar Max Pet Care Team? We are always looking for honest, pet loving, committed individuals to add to our pet care team! If you meet all of our minimum requirements below, we’d like to get to know you better! Please complete the application questions and submit a resume to be considered for an interview. Do not worry if you don’t have a professional resume. It does not have to be formal as we just want to have an overview of your experience and skills! Incomplete applications, or applications without some form of resume attached, will not be processed. Please note: pet sitting is part time, supplemental income and will not provide a full time income. However, your willingness and availability to work will open more opportunities to make money!

Minimum Requirements

  • Have experience with pet care and truly LOVE animals
  • Willing to work all aspects of pet care, which includes cleaning up after them! It's part of the job!
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must have a valid driver's license, proof of current auto insurance, and your OWN reliable transportation
  • Holidays: available and willing to work major holidays; that's the busiest time of year in this business!
  • Flexible Schedule: you must have a flexible schedule as our work depends on meeting our clients' needs; many of our daily visits happen around lunchtime but we have others who need morning, afternoon and evening visits. Pet sitters work days, nights, weekends, and holidays... and in rain, shine, heat, or snow/ice! The more flexible your schedule and willing to work, the more opportunities you will have to earn income!
  • Must have a smartphone with the ability to send and receive emails, texts, and pictures.
  • Strong communication skills: consistent and timely communication is a crucial part of this position, as are attention to details.
  • Strong work ethic: this includes being reliable, dependable and trustworthy
  • Ability to commit to at least 6 months to this position; our business is built largely on personal relationships with our clients and they, and their pets, come to depend on consistency with the sitter. Ideally, we would have you on board for much longer but we do need at least 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your pet sitter will secure one of the keys to your residence and the other key will be secured in the office. In the event of an emergency, SMPC management will be able to react more efficiently if time is not spent tracking down a single key.

We accept credit cards, checks, and cash. All forms of payment are handled by the office, not the pet sitter directly (unless prior arrangements have been made with management). When setting up brand new service with SMPC, the prepayment of your service schedule may be required and any credit that is due at the end of your service will be handled promptly via company check. If prepayment is being made by check, please allow 5 business days for processing prior to the onset of your pet care service.

Tipping is not required, but always appreciated by your pet sitter!. If you feel moved to give your sitter a tip, you may do so with a simple email to the office and we can include the amount on your invoice. You may also leave gratuity in an envelope at your home with the pet sitter’s name on it.

Cats and other small animals need daily care and attention as well! We do not typically accept pet sitting bookings that are not daily visits if the pet owner is not going to be home at all. There are a few exceptions to this depending on the type of animal but any deviation from a daily visit schedule would need to be discussed and approved by SMPC in advance.

Because these services take place in the private residences of our boarding sitters. These are our homes and, while we absolutely love what we do (otherwise we wouldn’t do it!), we cannot allow our homes to be damaged by an unruly dog. Your dog will be enjoying the company of other animals during their stay so it’s imperative that they are socialized and friendly.
